What we verified. B007NJIQCU designates this machine on amazon.de,
.it, .es and .co.uk, confirmed on EAN. We searched amazon.fr and did not find
it. The United States carries its own reference, B004RDH7Y8, listed as the
“Quantum Stylist 9960 Computerized Sewing & Quilting Machine”. The British
listing is titled “Singer 9960 — IMPORTED Sewing Machine”, so the UK route is an
import even though the reference is shared with the continent. Listed weight

What Singer states. Six hundred stitch patterns. Thirteen professional buttonholes sewn with Singer’s one-step system. Five lettering fonts with digits and a memory function, on an LCD display. Stitch width up to 7 mm, a quick threading system and a needle threader. An automatic thread cutter. Feed dogs that drop for darning and free-motion embroidery.
Which of those numbers to take seriously. The stitch width and the feed dog drop. A 7 mm width gives satin stitches and appliqué edges enough body to look deliberate, and droppable feed dogs are what make free-motion quilting possible at all. The stitch count is a catalogue figure.
Where we would look before buying. The presser foot lift and whether an extension table is included — on a machine sold partly for quilting, the size of the supported surface to the left of the needle decides how a full quilt behaves.

No, and it is the most oversold figure in sewing. You will use a straight stitch, a zigzag, a stretch stitch, a blind hem and a buttonhole. The other five hundred and ninety-five are decorative, and most people try a dozen once. Judge this machine on the 7 mm stitch width, the thirteen buttonholes and the droppable feed dogs, which are real capabilities.
Everything, for free-motion work. The feed dogs are the teeth that pull fabric through at a fixed rate; drop them and you move the fabric yourself, which is what lets you stitch a curve or a stipple pattern in any direction. Without that, a machine can quilt in straight lines and nothing else. It is the single specification that decides whether a general machine can do free-motion quilting at all.
