Which sewing machine needle for which fabric
More sewing problems are caused by the wrong needle than by the machine. This is the cheapest page on the site and probably the most useful: point type and size, matched to fabric.

Questions people actually ask
How often should I change the needle?
Every six to eight hours of sewing, not when it breaks. A blunt needle shows up as skipped stitches, puckering and snagged knits — and people blame the machine for weeks first.
My machine will not sew jersey. What now?
Change to a jersey needle before you change anything else. A universal point pierces the knit loop instead of sliding between the yarns, which cuts it and leaves the hook nothing to catch.
