Juki MO-654DE review

Juki's domestic overlocker, available under one reference on all six Amazon stores — and the product that exposed a flaw in our own verification method.

The bottom line One reference, six markets, and a brand that earned its reputation on stitch quality.

Hands-on testing pending. Everything below is either a manufacturer specification, cited as such, or something we verified ourselves.

What we verified. The reference B001BG08DQ, part number MO-654DE, designates the same product on all six Amazon stores we checked.

The machine that corrected our method. Our first verification pass rejected the Italian and Spanish listings as “a different product”, because our check matched on the product title and those titles read simply “Juki, metal, 34 x 27 x 29.5 cm” with no model number. The barcode was identical.

Had we trusted that result, two markets would have been left empty and readers in Italy and Spain would have been sent to a generic Amazon search instead of to the machine — quietly, with nothing to show anything was wrong. We rewrote the tool to confirm on the barcode rather than the title. This page exists partly as a record of that.

Where we would look before buying. The threading method. It is the single reason overlockers end up unused, and this listing does not state it.

What we like, and what we don't

Strengths

  • Available under one reference on every market we checked
  • Juki's domestic overlockers have a long-standing reputation for stitch quality

Compromises

  • Juki does not state the threading method on this listing, and threading is the whole decision
  • Italian and Spanish listings do not name the model, which makes comparison shopping harder

Questions people actually ask

Do I need an overlocker?

Only if you sew knits or want bought-garment seam finishes. A sewing machine can zigzag a raw edge and it holds; an overlocker trims, encloses and stitches in one pass and does it on stretchy fabric without waving. If you sew wovens and finish with a zigzag, you can wait.

Why is the model number missing from some listings?

Amazon's Italian and Spanish pages describe it only as "Juki, metal, 34 x 27 x 29.5 cm". The product is identical — we confirmed it on the barcode — but it makes the listing hard to find by model name, which is worth knowing if you are searching in those countries.
