Elna eXtend 664 PRO V2 review

A four-thread overlocker with automatic lower looper threading and a stated 1,300 stitches per minute. Proven on four markets under three different references; absent from Italy and Spain.

The bottom line The threading and the speed are both real specifications, not marketing. Check it is sold in your country first.

Hands-on testing pending. Everything below is either a manufacturer specification, cited as such, or something we verified ourselves.

What we verified. B0FS7K5957 designates this machine on amazon.de and amazon.fr, confirmed on EAN. The United Kingdom carries B007IUGOLO, listed as “Elna 664 PRO Overlocker”. The United States carries B0DBMQZ3V9, whose title states a 2/3/4-thread serger with twelve stitch programs, easy threading and differential feed. We searched amazon.it and amazon.es and did not find it on either: Italian and Spanish readers get a local search rather than a link.

What Elna states. A four-thread overlocker for hems and decorative seams, named for jersey, silk and fine voile. Automatic threading of the lower looper. A maximum of 1,300 stitches per minute. And — unusually — an explicit note that the eXtend 664 PRO V2 is a facelift of the 664 PRO whose machine functions are identical. Listed weight 9.5 kg.

Why we quote that last line. Manufacturers normally let a new suffix imply a new machine. Stating outright that the functions are unchanged is the kind of claim we can hold them to, and it tells you exactly what you are buying if you find the previous model discounted.

Where we would look before buying. Cutting width range and presser foot lift, neither published on the listings we read.

  • Elna states plainly that the V2 is a facelift with identical functions, which is unusually honest

Questions people actually ask

Is automatic looper threading worth paying for?

On a four-thread overlocker, yes, more than almost any other feature. The lower looper sits behind the knife in a space you cannot see into, and threading it by hand with tweezers is the step that turns a fifteen-minute colour change into a forty-minute one. Machines that automate it get used for the jobs they are good at; machines that do not get used for one project and then stay in the cupboard.

Should I buy the V2 or hunt for the older 664 PRO?

Elna states on the listing that the V2 is a facelift of the 664 PRO and that the machine functions are identical. If you find the older model cheaper and in warranty, that statement is your justification for buying it. We would not pay a premium for the newer badge on the strength of what is published.
